... and goes back to his bloodied apt. to figure out what happened to Ella. He finds just the clue he needed in the dummy's box. The doll's origins are rooted in Jaime's hometown. He skips town to find out what's going on and the detective follows.

We arrive in Jamie's hometown, it's a bit faded. It's had its day. We meet Jamie's ill father Edward Ashen played by Bob Gunton (Rendition, Dolores Claibourne) and his beautiful wife/caretaker Lisa. Edward plays into Jaime's fear and gives us some of the town's dark past and it's once main attraction Mary Shaw.

What follows is the discovery of Mary's abandoned theatre and an eerie grave site where all of Mary's ventriloquist dummy children were put to rest when she died. Jamie puts the pieces together with the doubtful detective at his side. Jamie digs up the puppet graves to find none of them are in their caskets. Mary is living through the puppets reaping revenge on the town for murdering her. Don't worry, they get her, but I'm not a big spoiler, oh wait, I just told you they get her.

The big sell to me in this film is all of the great grand dramatic locations the director takes us to. The theatre, Mary's hidden puppet room, the puppet grave site. And when Mary finally starts to appear, it's some of the best scream scenes of 2007, no really. The actress who plays Mary Shaw (Judith Roberts) is so awesome you kinda prey for a sequel. The effects in this movie are almost boner inducing. After it came out on DVD I watched many of the scenes over again because of the great ideas used for some of the scares. Oh, and it's was directed by James Wan (Saw), there's even a cameo appearance of Jigsaw's puppet. Look for it when you get to the scene in Mary's secret puppet room.

Dead Silence I felt got the snub from horror fans and was completely underrated. It's worth a second chance. Turn off the lights and hold your breath, cuz if you scream....you're dead.
