... lived. Jud shows them the nearby Pet Sematary created years prior by children who have lost their pets to the vicious traffic on the highway. Church is run down and out of fear of telling his daughter about the death of her cat he decides to keep the demise a secret, until Jud reveals a dark secret that resides on the other side of the Pet Sematary. Together Louis and Jud trek to an Indian burial ground where they put Church in the ground to be resurrected. Church does come back but certainly not the family pet he was before. Possessed maybe? With all of the players in place and the discovery of the true Pet Sematary, Stephen King delivers more of his morbid fascination with the death of children as Gage is the next to be mowed down on the highway of blood.

Gage's death is the true turning point of the film. After seeing Church's return from the grave we know what this crazed father is going to attempt, even at the protestations of Jud, who still has many secrets to share about the burial ground's past. Pet Sematary is a fantastic watch. It's creepy and gory and oddly at some times, much like most King literature, obtusely funny. Some of the best scenes in this film are Rachel's flashbacks about here dying sister that she was forced to take care of until her death and the constant warnings of a ghost that tries to help Louis make the right decisions before heading to the Pet Sematary. The introduction of young actor Miko Hughes is brilliantly maniacal and scary and proves the movie's tagline to be true..."Sometimes, dead is better."
