Fabled (2002)

I know not where to start with Fabled. Some might say it was a wonderful story told side by side with a children's fable as a metaphor. Some might say it was an artsy fartsy piece of crap. Hmmm....I just thought it was boring and obvious. So I guess I do know where to start.

"There once was a wolf named Lepold...who was black as coal, as thick as a tree truck, and feared like death." Pretty imposing and promising first line of any possibly gripping screenplay...right? Well...the voice over of the little girl narrator (Della Askew) is my favorite part of the movie, and not a bad fable from beginning to end. It's a tale of treachery between a wolf, Lepold, who may be feared but is seemingly a friend full of love and trust, and a crow with two faces that has a dark plan to manipulate Lepold. I like that story, however, this animal tale is far more interesting than what you get to watch.

Joe (Desmond Askew) has just parted ways with his girlfriend Liz (Katheryn Winnick). Joe complains of his recent break-up and the fact that his dog is missing to his best buddy Alex (J. Richey Nash). I'm pretty sure at this point we're to think that Joe is the wolf and Alex is the crow. Alex and Jo share a secret. Through some chopped up scenes in between our men's lunch ...
