Horror filmmaking, it's still that indie wave that most amateurs want to ride into the warm shores of Hollywood success. The films are generally terrible (almost as bad as my metaphors), but yet, they demand to be viewed by the eyes of an audience that must look for the films substance and integrity beyond that true initial quality that we see in other major releases. Some of the "actors" will make you grit your teeth, not to mention some of the awful effects, but to look too closely with a critical eye would mean the end of any enjoyment you might have in a film that could, in fact, halfheartedly reach some level of viewing tolerance for its audience. I, for one, enjoy these Indy flicks from time to time, and I'm glad to say that Bloodstained Romance does pack some punch, at least, enough for me to see it to an end.


Bloodstained Romance is a film by Travis B. Miller that can be downloaded at Indieflix.com. It's about Holden, a younger college student, who is about to believe in love at first site. With this new love comes a trigger of obsession. Obsession, for no real reason, turns into lust and the lust finally turns to violence. It's almost as if Holden feels ashamed of his new crush, and when his friends slowly find out about his new obsession, he kills them! So yes, Holden is a psycho, who stalks his unknowing crush until it's apparent that he is confusing the two extremes that are endlessly shifting around throughout his brain; love, and some of that ultra-violence! The film never really reaches much beyond this outline, nor does it need too. It carries itself well, for what it is, despite the usual awkwardness that these films tend to radiate too often.

What also carries the film is actor Chris Burchette and his surprisingly solid roll as a total maniac...a maniac in looove. His performance progresses as the film rolls on until you find yourself actually enjoying certain scenes a whole lot more just because Burchette nearly hits this roll right on the money.
