I know, I know, I know...they make a video game movie every other month these days. I'm a gamer myself, but have yet to see the ratio of good video game movies, match the number of good video games. I feel Silent Hill is an exception. The story gets the obligatory revamps to make it more mainstream. However the mysterious unfinished tale of Silent Hill is strong enough to take some Hollywood bumps.

There's a troubled little girl who has a habit of sleep walking to the edge of freeways and waterfalls. In her fevered sleep she whispers the name of a town...Silent Hill. Sharon (Jodelle Ferland) was adopted by a new loving family Rose (Radha Mitchell) and Christopher (Sean Bean) Da Silva. The couple is very troubled by Sharon's affliction, Rose much more so, and decides to take Sharon to Silent Hill with out the approval of her husband.

Rose has no idea what she's getting herself into. On the way to Silent Hill, Rose is questioned at a gas station by a motorcycle cop Cybil Bennet (Laurie Holden). There's a brief chase as Rose and Sharon rocket down a slippery road into the town that has been chained off over a bridge from the rest of the world, with Cybil right on their tail. Right after crossing the bridge a mysterious girl is seen crossing the road causing Rose to swerve. The near miss knocks her out.

Back to Christopher who feels absolutely betrayed by his wife's kidnapping of Sharon and decides to follow her trail. Rose awakes to find Sharon gone. She wanders the streets of Silent Hill where it constantly snows ash. A few minutes in and down a dark ally the light begins to dim and Rose is attacked by a large bunch of what appear to be crying burning children. A siren sounds and the light returns.

What follows is a dramatic ghost story taking place between two worlds. One of light and one of constant chaotic hell. Sharon is not Sharon, but a fragment of Alessa, a young girl to be sacrificed as a witch. There's also a third Alessa, the bad fragment, or maybe ...
