Okwe (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is a doctor from Nigeria, but now hustles every day in London trying to make ends meet with his two jobs. One is as a night Porter at a "don't ask, don't tell" hotel and the other is a taxi driver, when he not doing either he trying to help other people with his medical skills on the down low. Okwes living situation isn't perfect either, he lives with Senay (Audrey Tautou) who work at the hotel also as a chambermaid. Senay is an illegal also, she's from Turkey. Okwe is Senay's secret roommate, if the land lord comes or immigration services Okwe has to run out the door with his belongings at a moments notice. Our two lead characters live life on a nervy edge not knowing when they can rest.
After we're introduced to the illegal lives of Okwe and Senay we start to see more of the tawdry workings of West London hotel they both work in. Prostitutes, all night parties, clogged toilets. Okwe is sent to investigate one such clogged toilet. It doesn't turn out to be anything as simple as a wad of toilet paper...the clog is a human heart.
