"House On Haunted Hill" was the first offering from the newly formed Dark Castle Studios named for the films they were remaking originally directed by William Castle. This is my fav of the Dark Castle films.
The premise is that the very wealthy Evelyn (Famke Janssen) and Stephen (Geoffrey Rush) are going to throw a very exclusive B-day bash for Evelyn. Those in attendance are offered a prize of $1,000,000 if they can stay the night and survive in Stephen's newly acquired "Haunted House".
The edgy twist to the plot is that it's actually a haunted abandoned insane asylum where a twisted doctor used to experiment on his mad patients until a fire broke out. The asylum had a very secure lock down and when the blaze broke loose the building slammed shut trapping and killing everyone inside.
