I always forget just how terrifying this movie really is. It's almost feels at though Mr. Blatty and Mr. Friedkin just dipped the reels in pure evil. If you've never seen "The Exorcist" I don't recommend you watch it alone.
The film opens with Father Merrin (Max Von Sydow) at an archaeological dig in Iraq where he finds odd pieces, just as a small figure of what looks like a demon, and very old medallion, and a large statue of another demon looking over the city. Without any real straight answers we're left with an uneasy feeling that something bad is going to happen.
We meet actress Chris McNeil (Ellen Burstyn) and daughter Regan (Linda Blair) who have recently moved into a new home in Georgetown while Chris films her newest film at the nearby college. Regan finds a Ouija board in the basement and has started talking to a new friend she calls Captain Howdy. Chris is hearing strange noised in the attic that she quickly blames on a rat infestation.
