The obligatory sequel isn't always a bad thing. Taking a stab at the sequel genre is really fun especially when the storyline is well thought out. See how I used "Stab" there. I know it's cliche, but so is this movie. The idea is well thought out, but the execution of "Scream 2" is hardly as clean and put together as it's predecessor. But it's a blast none the less, and it has the creepiest opening out of the trilogy.

College students Maureen Evans (Jada Pinkett Smith) and Phil Stevens (Omar Epps) are having movie date night and a hysterical conversation about African Americans being left out of horror films. Maureen wants to see a Sandra Bullock flick, but Phil has passes to a premiere screening of "Stab" the film based on the true crime novel "The Woodsboro Murders" Written by the one and only Gale Weathers. "Stab", the film within the film is pretty hysterical and the Drew Barrymore role is wonderfully lampooned by Heather Graham. The studio has passed out Ghost Face Killah' costumes to the entire audience and Maureen is not having the generally obnoxious behavior of the people in the theater. So with everyone in a costume no one notices that the real killer picks of Phil in the mens bathroom and then Maureen in her seat while everyone watches the movie. Maureen barely staggers to the front of the movie screen to collapse in a bloody heap. It's are really great opening sequence.
