Jess (Kristen Stewart) is a troubled teen with a spotty past, kicked out of school, drugs, etc. Instead of staying put and dealing with the families problems they decide to pack up and move to the country, figuring if they remove Jess from such a dangerous environment, i.e. the city, she'll mellow and become they daughter they always knew she could be. Jess's Dad Roy (Dylan McDermott) and Mom Denise (Penelope Ann Miller) have bought a huge old farm in the hills. It's a real fixer upper. But from the moment Jess steps out of the family Sedan she knows something is not right, especially when she notices that her baby brother is seeing things no one else can.

As the family gets situated a stranger appears from out of the blue in the corn field. His name is Burwell (John Corbett) he claims to have wondered into town and heard that someone had finally bought this old farm and that he's looking for work.
