Lexi (Mary McCormick) and Brad (Rory Cochrane) wake up like any other day in their cozy home right outside of downtown Los Angeles. Brad makes coffee, Lexi showers for work. They listen to the radio together, and Lexi takes off for her office job in one of the downtown high rises. Moments later all hell breaks loose when it's announced over the radio that more than one dirty bomb has been detonated in the downtown area.
I was completely taken aback by this movie. I really didn't know what to expect, and I'm not one to usually enjoy drama driven thrillers. They usually end up like The Bone Collector or even Kiss the Girls. Boo. Boo as in bad, not Boo as in scary. Right at Your Door is based on the present and constant looming horror of terrorism that we're told to fear on a daily basis on the radio, television and internet. It's the kind of story that scares you so bad that you can't believe it would ever happen in real life. Then when it's over, you're pretty sure you...

In a genre where we get a "of the Dead" movie every other month, you kind of need a gimmick to sell your story. Now to my understanding Day of the Dead was supposed to be a remake of the original, which is loosely a part of George Romero's "Dead" series. However the only thing familiar about it was the walking dead, not so much the screenplay. The screenplay was so campy that it seemed more like a remake of Planet Terror than anything else.
A small town in Colorado is being quarantined. No one knows why. Captain Rhodes (Ving Rhames) and soldier Sarah Bowman (Mena Suvari) are in charge of the blockade keeping residents from going anywhere. However the quarantine is taking place in Sarah's hometown, and she decides to take a buddy Bud (Stark Sands) to go find her mother and brother to make sure everything is okay.
As soon as Sarah hits town she realizes there's a sickness spreading very quickly. Duh, Sarah the ...

I had not seen the first Boogeyman film, which I don't think really mattered. Everything I had read about the first one was incredibly disappointing. Everything said it was a yawner. So my hopes for the sequel were dim to say the least. However, Boogeyman 2 ended up being a surprise...a fun, gory, familiar surprise.
It's Laura Porter's 7th Birthday. The family has sat down to blow out the candles, open gifts and cut the cake. The issue at hand is that Laura's brother, Henry (who is about a year or two older than his sister), keeps wiggling in his seat because he needs to use the bathroom. A small argument transpires between Henry and his father, turns out Henry is extremely afraid of the dark hallway on the way to the bathroom. He thinks the Boogeyman is waiting for him there. Henry's irrational fear of this fictional monster has disrupted Laura's Birthday. Upstairs Laura plays with the dollhouse she was given as a gift and through its window witnesses...the Boogeyman...

The brilliant work of horror art that is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is very hard to surpass. There's is an amazing realistic edge to Tobe Hooper's direction in that film. When a creative team can tap into something so primal the film has no where to go but up or become a cult classic. Could a remake of this classic really contain the same edge? Short answer? No. But it can be reinvented and show us what the slasher genre has become in the new millennium. What has it come you ask? Well, it may not be as realistic however what they give us in the new "Chainsaw" is unforgiving ultra-violence that makes you cringe in your seat.
The film remains true, for the most part, to the original script. However, with a ridiculous budget comes some ridiculous names. Mostly in the form of Erin played by Jessica Biel whom you would never think you'd see in a horror film. I was never a Jessica fan, but she's pretty rad as Erin. I almost thought I was going to miss the 70's e...
