Despite a great premise, Wes Craven’s New Nightmare suffers from poor execution of an intriguing concept and ultimately disappoints. This is basically a “movie-within-a-movie” the story being that Craven (playing himself) is working on a new Nightmare on Elm Street film and is trying to recruit the original actors for the “return of Freddy”.
This sounds like a gimmick that would have worked beautifully in a movie about a killer who stalks you …

When I plucked a random movie out from my brother’s gargantuan horror film collection, I thought I knew what I’d be in for. A Dario Argento giallo, maybe, or a psychedelic 70s sexploitation flick, or possibly a delightful Troma horror. Something with Clint Howard in it, if I was lucky. Alas, no. My random pick wound up being the 1985 cult torture film about psychotic gardeners run amok: They Don’t Cut the …

If you’re a true horror fan you’ve probably felt the thrill of finding a notorious film that was guaranteed to shock you (no matter what you’d seen before it). For me, the movie was Cannibal Holocaust, which I downloaded off Kazaa in my college dorm room during my sophomore year. I’m sure a few people can relate to the nervous anticipation I felt when I watched that for the first time – …

When John Carpenter and Debra Hill elected to set their Psycho (1960) inspired stalk and slash film around the time of Halloween, there was a certain inevitability about a film like Silent Night, Deadly Night. The only surprise about the film is that it took until 1984 for a major festive themed slasher to emerge. Prior to this, audiences had endured Prom Night (1980/2008), Mother’s Day (1980), New Year’s Evil (1980), Graduation Day (1981), and My Bloody Valentine (1981/2009), before the image of Santa Claus …

Grime can be very hard to re-produce. As the phrase ‘Grindhouse’ gains popularity with horror aficionados and movie geeks everywhere, more and more forgotten, low budget and just flat out bizarre films are being brought back to life. I actually saw a box of ‘Grindhouse’ flicks in an Electronic Retail store with 20 films jammed into one case. Most of these films are public domain, or films that are sold in bulk …

The mannequin is not often used in horror films: however, by and large they are usually very creepy. “Tourist Trap” takes the slasher genre and adds mannequins to the mix.
The film follows the basic slasher premise: two couples and one “extra” girl go to a vacation spot to have some fun, show some skin, have sex and do some partying. They also bump into a strange ‘museum’ where good old boy Chuck …

Horror filmmaking, it’s still that indie wave that most amateurs want to ride into the warm shores of Hollywood success. The films are generally terrible (almost as bad as my metaphors), but yet, they demand to be viewed by the eyes of an audience that must look for the films substance and integrity beyond that true initial quality that we see in other major releases. Some of the “actors” will make …

The Hills Have Eyes and its sequel are two of my favorite slasher/horror films. And believe me the originals are just as fantastic. But this remake is pretty amazing and amazingly scary.
The Carter’s decide to take a family vacation. It’s been ages since they had one, so the whole “fam” takes off in a bit of a caravan consisting of one Winnebago and a truck. The family consists …

In my review for The Hills Have Eyes I forgot to mention the awesome scary make-up effects used to create the mutants that inhabit the actual hills. The hills of this deserted nuclear test site are filled with people that have been deformed from radiation poisoning and decades of in-breeding in the deserted mines that have been all but forgotten by civilization, until now.
The government has taken a new found interest …

Neil Marshall steps aside, but not completely off the film set, for this much anticipated sequel. The original Descent was directed by Mr. Marshall, and while he’s producing the sequel, the editor of the first installment has given the film a go as director. Even though this is Jon Harris’s directorial debut, expect much of the same in respects to the brutal carnage, claustrophobic dwellings, and fast paced action.

Paranormal Activity a HUGE Hit Overseas!
PA made quite an impression on domestic audiences. The film cost $15,000 to shoot in just two weeks. How much did the film gross domestically? A little over 100 million! Well, it turns out that the film is becoming just as huge of a hit overseas. Within its opening week in countries such as the U.K and Germany, it raked in just a little over 35 million at box offices.
So what does …
