Final Destination 3

Release Date: 2006
At this point we all realize that the point of any Final Destination film is to guess the gory end of each of the characters and make bets as to who might beat Death at its own game. Which is totally fun, right? You bet!
So here’s our scene…it’s the senior party at the local amusement park. We get a short set up of who the beauties and the geeks are. Then everyone who is everyone gets in line to ride the new roller coaster. We’re treated to a scene where the coaster car derails and kills everyone on the ride. It’s way fun. Screaming and people cut in half. It’s like X-Mas for Goth kids. Then Wendy Christianson (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up from her vision or premonition and we’re back in line before the terrible event takes place. Wendy freaks out and tries to warn everyone not to get on the ride. Not everyone listens including Wendy’s boyfriend. The coaster takes off and kills everyone on the ride. Leaving the survivors of the senior class very shaken.
If you’re not familiar with the Final Destination franchise those that have just escaped death are now about to die even more horrible deaths for tricking Death in the first place. The only one to figure this out is the seemingly clairvoyant Wendy who keeps finding shapes and shadows in photos she took at the carnival that give a clue as to how the person in the picture is going to die. As usual the death scenes are all really bizarre and cruel. My favorite is….well, since there are no real twists in these movies I’m not going to give up the good parts.
Final Destination 3 is a pretty typical sequel. So just expect the bodies to pile up. I must say though that the first one is still pretty great. I’m not saying these three films hold up as a solid trilogy but they’re certainly fun to re-watch at least for the special effects. Special effects and Ally Larter. (No she’s not in 3, but she is in the first two.)

Neil Marshall steps aside, but not completely off the film set, for this much anticipated sequel. The original Descent was directed by Mr. Marshall, and while he’s producing the sequel, the editor of the first installment has given the film a go as director. Even though this is Jon Harris’s directorial debut, expect much of the same in respects to the brutal carnage, claustrophobic dwellings, and fast paced action.
