Dead Bodies

Posted on 11.10.09 in All Horror Films
Release Date: 2003
Dead Bodies is a UK import. It starts off kinda angsty, which is fun. But it quickly decides to turn into a very predictable murder mystery without any scares.
Tommy McGann (Andrew Scott) is a total slacker, and his girlfriend Jean (Katy Davis) tells him so on no uncertain terms and rather frequently. Tommy and Jean have it out once and for all…a little screaming and he grabs her, breaks up with her, gives her a good shake and runs out to the pub. He cries on his buddy Noel’s (Darren Healy) shoulder and drunkenly walks home. When he gets there he finds Jean’s dead body. Obviously he shook a bit harder than he thought, because she has appeared to have fallen and cracked open her head on a very solid stone coffee table. Note to the wise if you’re gonna fight with your girl friend and throw her around have the good sense to at least make sure you haven’t thrown her to her untimely death. Quickest way to ruin a buzz aye mate?
Tommy and Noel quickly decide to cover up Jean’s death. What follows is a half hearted attempt to delve into the mind of an accidental murderer. I think I would have liked that title better…”The Accidental Murderer” or better yet…”The Dangerous Coffee Table.” The story does get a bit twistier…Tommy hides the body deep in a wooded area outside of town, unfortunately it’s a spot that isn’t exactly vacant. There’s another dead body there. Worst case scenario happens after Tommy buries Jeans body…he gets pegged for the murder of yet another girl.
Dead Bodies almost gives us a riveting story, but for some reason that I can’t put my finger on it ends up quite dull. It even has a very “you totally deserved it” ending that just made me say Boo! and turn the TV off.

Neil Marshall steps aside, but not completely off the film set, for this much anticipated sequel. The original Descent was directed by Mr. Marshall, and while he’s producing the sequel, the editor of the first installment has given the film a go as director. Even though this is Jon Harris’s directorial debut, expect much of the same in respects to the brutal carnage, claustrophobic dwellings, and fast paced action.
